Aberdeen Group Charitable Trust is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Unicorn Theatre.  A live theatre experience called ‘Pocket Money’ will launch in autumn and allow 7-11 year olds to explore financial literacy in a digital world.

The Unicorn is the UK’s leading children’s theatre. Their mission is to transform young people’s lives through theatre – creating bold, imaginative and inspiring productions for children from 0-13.

Pocket Money is being developed by leading theatre-makers in consultation with financial experts and the Unicorn’s young Creative Associates, a group of local children who will be involved throughout the creative process, sharing their unique perspectives and helping to develop the show.

The show will use an electronic voting system to empower children’s decision making - enhancing their critical thinking about money, their choices and the future they create for themselves.

Initiatives such as affordable tickets will help ensure the show reaches the widest possible audience. The Unicorn will also offer expert-informed teacher resources, and informal free weekend workshops for families led by artists and financial experts.

Kristina Church, Chair of the Aberdeen Group Charitable Trust and Group Head of Sustainability at Aberdeen Group plc, said:

“Engaging children with financial literacy and helping them make sense of money is about so much more than just classroom learning. We can’t wait to see this show come to life — it’s such a fun, fresh way to help young people get confident with money.”

Rebekah Jones, Executive Director and Co-CEO at the Unicorn Theatre, said:

“At the Unicorn, we believe theatre can transform young lives and shape the future cultural consumers of tomorrow. It’s our privilege and responsibility to connect children with stories that matter. This production brings financial literacy to life in an engaging, accessible way building confidence and decision-making skills that last a lifetime.

Thanks to the funding this project also allows us to offer affordable tickets, widening access with pricing in line with the average pocket money!  We’re proud to share a story every child can benefit from.
