Aberdeen Investments accelerates ETF ambitions with key UK and EMEA leadership appointment

21 September 2026
  • Caroline Hertrich joins as Head of UK & EMEA ETF Strategy as Aberdeen aims to build on success of rapidly growing US ETF business

Aberdeen Investments has appointed Caroline Hertrich as Head of UK & EMEA ETF Strategy, a newly created leadership role to support the growth of the firm’s ETF franchise across the UK and EMEA.

The appointment builds on the progress of Aberdeen’s ETF business in the US, which has around $21bn assets under management*, having doubled in size during 2025. Aberdeen Investments is now the third largest manager by AUM in the US ETF commodities market.

Caroline joins with more than 15 years of experience spanning ETFs, index investing and investment solutions across EMEA and the US. She joins from Bloomberg, where she served as Index Sales Lead for UK and Ireland buy-side clients, and helped expand the firm’s index footprint across asset classes.

Prior to Bloomberg, Caroline held senior leadership positions at FTSE Russell and BlackRock, where she played a key role in ETF product strategy, distribution, and client engagement across European markets. Throughout her career, she has worked with asset managers, insurers, and institutional investors to develop and implement investment solutions. Her experience includes product lifecycle management for BlackRock's EMEA investment offerings and pioneering the use of ETFs with institutional clients.

Steven Dunn, Global Head of ETFs at Aberdeen Investments, said:

"Caroline joins Aberdeen at an exciting stage in the evolution of our ETF business. She brings deep ETF expertise, strong commercial leadership and a proven track record of helping investment businesses grow and scale across multiple markets. As in the US, we will focus on areas where we have conviction, a differentiated proposition and where we identify a clear client need.

"Europe is at an earlier stage of its ETF journey than the US, but there is growing interest, particularly in active strategies. Caroline will play a key role in shaping our European plans and translating them into long-term commercial success which are squarely focussed on client solutions.”

In her new role, Caroline will be responsible for translating Aberdeen's global ETF ambitions into commercial success across the UK and EMEA.  Working closely with teams across investments, product, distribution and marketing, Caroline will help drive the growth of Aberdeen's ETF platform, strengthen client engagement and support the development of future ETF capabilities across the region.

Caroline Hertrich, Head of UK & EMEA ETF Strategy, Aberdeen Investments, said:

"The European ETF market is entering an exciting phase of development, particularly within active ETFs, where investors are increasingly seeking differentiated investment ideas delivered through flexible and accessible structures. No longer a niche investment tool, ETFs are rapidly becoming the go-to vehicle for a new generation of investors and experienced market participants alike, reflecting their growing role as one of the most dynamic and innovative areas of asset management.

"Aberdeen is well positioned to capitalise on that trend through its established ETF platform and investment heritage. I am delighted to join the business and work closely with colleagues across investments, product and distribution to broaden our ETF offering and help more investors benefit from Aberdeen's expertise. I look forward to contributing my experience across the full ETF and funds value chain as we build for the future.”
